The Trivandrum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) is pinning all hopes on an early intervention of UPA chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi to persuade the State Government to take up projects of significance for the development of the capital city and surrounding areas.

A team, comprising S N Raghuchandran Nair (TCCI), E M Najeeb (president, Confederation of Tourism Industry), Abraham Thomas (Apaxa), V K Mathews (CII) and K Srikant (TATF) met Sonia at the Raj Bhavan and presented a memorandum with a road map for development.

They pointed out that despite great potential, infrastructure development  is still a far cry for the capital.

The group urged Sonia to ensure that the Vizhinjam Container Transshipment Terminal project became a reality at the earliest. The third phase of development of Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, the long pending demand of a High Court Bench in the capital, an effective mechanism for garbage disposal, sanctioning of eligible incentives for IT parks, a scheme to widen and limit the width of highways at 45 meters in the state in view of the rising number of accidents and inclusion of non-government institutions in the proposed Real Estate Regulatory laws were the other demands put forth in the memorandum.
