As the battle lines are clearly drawn and the fighters ready on the ground, the election heat is on in the Kannur Lok Sabha constituency. Even before the official announcement, the candidates of the LDF and the UDF began their campaign on Thursday. Sitting MP K Sudhakaran and P K Sreemathi of the LDF are busy campaigning in the constituency. Sudhakaran began his campaign by wooing young and new voters of Sree Narayana College here on Thursday morning. KSU activists gave the leader a rousing reception as he reached the college. The Congress leader requested the students and the staff of the college to elect him once again if they were satisfied with his performance in the past five years.

In a bid to leave a mark on the young voters, he also visited Nalanda College, College of Commerce and V K Krishna Menon Memorial Govt Women’s College.

“I feel like I am back to my college days,” Sudhakaran said after meeting the students at SN College. “When I meet youngsters, their energy and youthfulness give me a new vigour that will propel my campaign,” he said. The UDF campaign will officially begin with the official announcement of the candidate on Friday at a convention to be addressed by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala.

Flex boards and posters requesting support for LDF candidate P K Sreemathi had appeared in various centres of the constituency on Wednesday itself. Sreemathi visited workers and voters in the constituency on Thursday.

As the list of CPM candidates was announced by Thursday evening, the Left election machinery will go full throttle from Friday.
