Marketing Goes FB Way

Two years later with 21,932 likes and a new shop in Kannur, these girls are now counted among the most successful young entrepreneurs who used the Facebook, to successfully market their business.

 “We owe everything to Facebook. We had no plans of expansion at all. Initially we thought we will close down two years after opening the shop,” says Tenaz. There is no online sales, but they gain new customers through Facebook. 

“Nearly 80 per cent of our sales are realised through Facebook. We update it daily and customers approach our store after referring to the pictures we put up,” says Tenaz.  Anjumu Nisa, who runs a small boutique at Aluva, started off with an Facebook page ‘Dezigns’ two years ago. A software engineer who wanted to be an entrepreneur, Anjumu began by selling her designs at home, mostly brought by her neighbours.

“After I set up a Facebook page the sales have improved and I now have a store near my home,” says Anjumu Nisa.  Bibin Mathew Joseph, who runs Aloudspeaker, a Facebook page management company says businesses like boutiques and cake shops target local customers. “Many of them open pages in such a way that they can deliver the product locally,” he says.

 Deepak Kumar Shetty, vice-chairman, Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said online commerce is going to be the future of retail marketing.

“It is really cool and wonderful that women are making use of Facebook as a platform for sales,”  Deepak Kumar Shetty said.
