Over 80 Percent Voter Turnout During Repoll at Booth No 118

The repolling at the Pallilankara booth number 118 of the Kalamassery constituency for the Lok Sabha election was completed peacefully on Wednesday.

A total of 80.38 per cent voting was recorded at the booth in the repoll that began at 7 am and ended at 6 pm. Out of the total 1,172 voters, 942 cast their votes. This includes 466 male voters and 476 female voters.

The polling at the booth, actually held on April 10 along with the rest of the state, was stalled for nearly an hour after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers protested alleged non-functioning of the AAP symbol in the electronic voting machine.

Later, the AAP also filed a complaint with the Election Commission in this regard, following which the repoll was ordered.

During the re poll on Thursday, no untoward incidents were reported except a slight war-of-words between UDF and AAP members. Police officials and party leaders soon intervened and helped in resolving the issue. Later, Collector M G Rajamanickam, who visited the booth, ordered to remove the party flags and decorations near the gate.

A set of four machines had been arranged for the repoll. For the first one hour, only 11 per cent votes were recorded. The percentage rose to 42.7 by 11 am and by 12 pm, the poll percentage was 48.8.Till 2 pm, male voters dominated the polling while the female voters surged in after 3 pm. By 4 pm, 72.86 per cent votes were registered.
