The Forest Department authorities have imposed time restrictions on pilgrims who take the traditional Pulmedu-Sathram-Vallakadavu-Vandiperiyar route to reach the Lord Ayyappa Temple. The restrictions were imposed on pilgrims who walk on the route, after wild elephants were spotted on the forest path at Pandithavalam and near Sathram.

The pilgrims will be allowed to travel on the path upto 2 pm, from Pandithavalam to Pulmedu, according to the new restrictions. At Sathram too, the Forest authorities have barred pilgrims from taking the forest route via Pulmedu after 2 pm, for similar reasons.

At Azhuthakadavu, restrictions have been put in place to prevent pilgrims from taking the traditional forest path to Karimala after 2 pm. Pilgrims are not allowed to walk the Cheriyanavattom route also.
