The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has decided to raise the insurance cover for  pilgrims to `2 lakh from the present amount of `1 lakh.

Talking to mediapersons at Devaswom guest house here on Sunday, Devaswom commissioner P Venugopal said that the enhanced insurance amount to the families of the pilgrims who die during the pilgrimage at Sannidhanam, Pampa, or while trekking to Sabarimala, will come into effect from the ongoing pilgrimage season.

The Devaswom commissioner said that restrictions are imposed on the sale of appam prasadam in view of the depletion in the level of buffer stock.

As per the new sales curbs, a pilgrim can buy only a maximum of 30 appam packets, he said.

The bulk purchase of appam prasadam has been stopped forthwith, the commissioner said.

Compalint and suggestion boxes will be kept at Nadapandal, Sabari guest house, Maha Kanikka and Malikappuram for those who avail the accommodation facility here to air their views and complaints on the services and facilities offered by the Devaswom.

With the new facility, the Devaswom authorities will get first-hand feedback from the pilgrims on various facilities and services offered to them, he said.

Regarding the new accommodation rates, the Devaswom commissioner said that the new accommodation unified tariff was introduced  with the objective to prevent manipulation of the facilities.
