Former Guruvayur Melsanthi is dead

Former melsanthi of Guruvayur Sreekrishna Temple, Narayanan Namboodiripad, 76, of Andaladi Manakkal, died at Ongallur near Pattambi on Saturday. The cremation was held on Saturday.

He had been the melsanthi of Guruvayur temple three times.

He was also the thantri of around 300 temples, including Kadampuzha Bhagavathy Temple, Puthanalkkal Bhagavathy Temple and Mulayankavu Bhagavathy Temple. He had also installed idols (prathishta) in 30 temples. He had received the Kalpuzha Divakaran Namboodiripad memorial award of the Thanthra Vidya Peedham, Aluva.

He is survived by wife Unnikali Antharjanam and children, Usha, Rema, Prasanna, Leela, Parameswaran Namboodiripad and Vishnu Namboodiripad.
