Historian M G S Narayanan on Sunday accused Indian communists of trying to make it appear that India lacked a history and a culture.

He was presenting a paper at a seminar on ‘Development of Kerala: Problems, Solutions, History and Protection of Heritage’ organised in connection with the 30th national conference of the Bharateeya Vichara Kendram (BVK) here.

The Communist attempt was based on the premise that communism will not take root in an atmosphere of nationalistic pride. They did not follow Marx, but a distorted version of communism concocted by Stalin, M G S Narayanan said.

The ‘Kerala model’ had lost its sheen  because the production sector was ignored and mistaking progress in the service sector alone as development, BVK president Dr M Mohandas said. The current crisis facing the state is the result of ignoring industrial and agricultural sectors.

BVK director P Parameswaran delivered the valedictory address.
