Chief of Army Staff General Bikram Singh has said that there was no need to withdraw the Indian forces from Siachen.

Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the passing-out parade at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, General Bikram Singh reiterated the stand of the Indian Army that the country’s armed force are strategically positioned at an advantageous situation in the Siachen and there is no question of moving back”.

The General, however, added that a policy decision on the issue couldn’t be taken by the Army alone.

On the question of the country’s relationship with China, General Bikram Singh said that the bilateral relations between the two countries was on a perfect foot and that there was tranquility on the border.

“We have a mechanism to resolve any problems between the two countries as of now,” said the General. Replying to a question on the non-availability of adequate number of candidates to fill the slots of officers in the Indian Army, General Bikram Singh, said that efforts were on to overcome this issue.

Measures are being taken to enhance the Army’s manpower. Steps are under way to attract more youths to the army, the General said.
