Spelling trouble for senior Congress leader and Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha P J Kurien, the Suryanelli rape victim and her parents have asserted that Kurien had raped her.  This comes a day after the Supreme Court set aside the Kerala High Court order acquitting all except the prime accused in the  case.

The rape victim also sent a letter to her advocate requesting him to explore the possibilities of filing a review petition before the Supreme Court against its earlier order exonerating Kurien  from the case.

In the letter sent on January 29, the victim stated that Kurien had raped her at Kumily panchayat guest house along with other accused in the case. “During the course of the investigation, I stated the fact to every investigating officer who had questioned me. But after the completion of investigation, they did not file a chargesheet against Kurien and the prosecution has not prosecuted him for the offence committed by him against me,” the letter says.

She states that on the basis of a private complaint filed by her, the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Peerumade, had issued a summon against Kurien to appear before the court. However, he had approached High Court and later Supreme Court, from where he was exonerated from the case.

The  girl confirmed to Express that such a letter was sent to their advocate, Chandar Uday Singh, assigned by the Democratic Mahila Association, seeking legal advice on the matter. She also expressed her wish to get  Kurien punished in the case.
