SAMBALPUR: The Sambalpur Public Library was  inaugurated on Monday by poet Jayant Mahapatra.  A website hosted by Sambalpur University Vice-Chancellor B C Barik was also launched on the occasion.

As per Unesco guidelines, the library will adopt scientific techniques for its maintenance and operation. The library has 2,500 books to begin with and is located on the road leading to Circuit House.

Sources said the library will also conduct seminars, debates and discussions from time to time. Plans have also been mooted to launch a mobile library to provide books to readers at their doorsteps.

In an effort to help students beyond  classroom, the library authorities plan to launch an e-learning portal with features like e-quizzes, e-lectures and e-papers to help students prepare for their examinations. e-paper is similar to a question bank.
