MALKANGIRI: A top Maoist leader surrendered before the police in Malkangiri on Wednesday saying that he was disillusioned due to discrimination and arbitrary killings.

Sanyasi Pujari (35), area commander of Paplur Maoist Dalam and hailing from Dhuliput village in remote Chitrakonda area of the district, surrendered after spending 11 years with Maoists, Malkangiri SP Anirudh Singh said.

Singh added that Pujari had planned the Kalimela police station attack in 2001 and involved in the killing of an SI in Chopdola in AP.

Soon after surrender before the SP, Pujari told mediapersons that he had decided to say goodbye to Maoist activities due to ill-treatment and discrimination by the Maoist leaders, particularly those belonging to other states like Andhra Pradesh.
