BERHAMPUR: Two mobile phones were seized from Aska sub-jail during a surprise check on Tuesday.

Following certain allegations by under-trial prisoners, a raid was conducted by the officials concerned in the presence of Bhanjanagar Sub-Collector N Tirumala Nayak, SDPO Binaykrushna Kamila and sub-jail superintendent Brundaban Behera. During search, two mobile phones were found near cell no. 5.

The cell houses one Samir Panda and Susant Behera who were arrested on charges of killing Seragada police station in-charge Manoranjan Mishra, two years back.

The mobiles, however, did not have any SIM in them as a result of which, jail authorities have not been able to identify their owners.

MISCREANT NABBED: One Saroj Pradhan was arrested by Gangapur Police on Monday in connection with a firing and loot case at Gobara village last week.

On April 4, the collection manager of a private firm in Berhampur was returning in a four-wheeler to the city with a cash of `6.53 lakh when a group of masked men hurled four bombs at him and fired one round.  As the manager and his driver stepped out of the vehicle, the miscreants snatched away the cash bag from him and fled. On a tip off about Saroj’s presence in Sorada village, police nabbed him.
