BARIPADA: A woman in Baisinga area of Mayurbhanj district allegedly committed suicide after killing her 10-month-old baby boy over acute poverty on Wednesday night.
The deceased have been identified as Suvara Kazi (30) and her son Sazat of Ward 9 in Dahibadi.
Police said the woman first strangulated her son to death and then hanged herself. The woman’s husband Jamuna Kazi who works as a mason spotted them and informed the police.
Baisinga police station IIC F C Gochhi said the incident occurred when Jamuna was away for work. When he returned in the night he found the door closed from inside and there was no response.
According to Jamuna, Suvara was not mentally sound for the last one year due to financial problems in the family. She often quarrelled with him over monetary matters. Police investigation is on.
