KENDRAPARA: A mahout was electrocuted while riding an elephant in village Desahi under Aul block on Sunday. The elephant has also sustained serious burn injuries.
The mahout has been identified as Jayanath Nanda of Nazaprpur in Uttar Pradesh. Sources said the mahout accidentally touched a live electric wire while moving in the village street on the elephant.
A team of veterinary doctors from Nandankanan zoo rushed to Desahi to treat the injured elephant on Sunday evening.
