BERHAMPUR: Berhampur Police on Monday claimed to have cracked two murder mysteries that rocked the Silk City in the last two months.

Police arrested four persons, including a wanted criminal, Iswar Reddy, in connection with the murder of one Bhagirathi Reddy in Karapalli village.

Bhagirathi’s torso was recovered on April 8 in the village, but the head could not be traced till Sunday. Investigation revealed that Iswar, Sudam Maharana, Babu Reddy and Santosh Sahu had killed him over past enmity. As per their statement, the head packed in a polythene bag and hid in an overhead water tank was recovered.

Informing this to mediapersons, Berhampur SP Safin Ahmad said Bhagirathi and Iswar were rivals and on April 6, they had consumed liquor along with some villagers during a feast.

When Bhagirathi was leaving for home, Iswar insisted that the former have some more liquor to which he agreed. Iswar then along with Sudam, Babu and Santosh took Bhagirathi to an isolated place and killed him before chopping off his head.

To mislead the police, the accused buried the torso at one place in the village and hid the head in the water tank.

In another incident on February 29, Partha Nayak, mahant of a muth in Madanmohonpur, was found murdered. The four accused Dandapani Patra, Jaganath Patra, Surendra Pradhan and Simanchal Sethi were arrested following a tip off. They had reportedly admitted killing Partha over a land dispute.

All the eight would be produced in court on Tuesday.
