Gear up for a fun-filled summer

Exams are over and its summer holidays once again! And that means it is time for summer camps. Now, parents want holidays to be a package of fun and learning for their children. And that’s what the camps are all about (or at least most of them).

While some parents want to hone their kids’ real life skills, others want the children to start reading and still others want to keep the kids creatively engaged.

And now, with so many options, including regular ones like music and dance classes, to novel ones like cartooning, jewellery making, gardening, theatre, modelling and hamming, parents have a wide choice.

Like every year, Odisha Modern Art Gallery (OMAG), Odisha’s only institution of its kind in the Capital, has announced plan to host a state-level crafts training camp for the children commencing on May 2.

OMAG director Tarakant Parida informed that the institution has been hosting such annual camps for the children known as “Fine Hearts” for the past six years. “Children are burdened with studies and there is hardly any scope for them to dabble in creative activity. Therefore, we host this annual event during the summer vacation,” he explained and added that the event has received rave response from the school students of the City and of far off towns as well.

The camp would span two weeks and the campers would spend three hours every morning with the master crafts persons whom OMAG has roped in to conduct the sessions. “In 15 days, the children would be exposed to 15 craft practices like terracotta, pottery, glass painting, palm leaf painting, fabric art, marble painting, sand art, jute craft and papier mache. They would be exposed to the craft making process; so that they can have a choice  later on to specialise”, Tarakant mentioned.

So little ones, what are you waiting for? Get into the creative mode and have a fun-filled holiday.
