Displaced families works to be sold by tribal coop

In a major boost to the enterprise on Saura paintings and other items set up by the displaced families of Tata Steel’s Kalinga Nagar project, the Tribal Development Cooperative Corporation of Odisha Limited (TDCCOL) has announced that it would procure and sell the products from its outlets across the State.

The TDCCOL will procure T-shirts with Saura paintings, wall hangings, chanderi sil dupattas, angavastras, file holders, greeting cards, pen stand, paper weights and bookmarks, etc. that have been embellished with the exquisite painting style by the trained artisans under the Navjeevan Cooperative Ltd.

Clothing chain Fabindia, Tribes India and Delhi Crafts Council have also evinced interest in procuring products from NCL.

Starting off with paintings and wall hangings, the cooperative has expanded to various segments from painting on clothes and textiles to office stationery, gift items and flower vases.

The Cooperative had generated a turnover of Rs 42 lakh last year.
