JEYPORE: A gang of thieves, many of them juveniles, is on the prowl. They break open the doors and windows and flee with the valuables from homes. Petty thefts and attempts of thefts have been reported from Parabeda, Jayanagar, Aravinda Nagar, Irrigation Colony, MG Road, Power House and Jayanagar areas in the last few days.
Cocking a snook at police, the criminals break open the doors and windows minutes after the patrolling jeep is gone, say the locals. On Saturday night, thieves attempted to loot three houses, including that of the Koraput DI of Schools, but the house owners managed to chase the thieves away. Police said several juvenile criminals indulge in such activities posing a challenge to police as well as locals. Three juvenile criminals were arrested and the booty recovered from them. Even as the town requires at least 30 constables for night vigil but only nine manage the show. Jeypore IIC NR Pradhan said night patrolling has been intensified with available infrastructure.
