BHUBANESWAR: With culling operations nearing the end, plans are afoot to divert vehicles carrying poultry and cattle feed from NH-5 which passes through the alert zone. At the review meeting, chaired by Municipal Commissioner Vishal Dev, it was suggested that movement of the eggs and feed be carried through an alternative route. The Central Poultry Development Organisation is located by the NH-5. On the fourth day of the culling, the rapid response teams killed 319 birds and destroyed over 3,500 eggs in 15 wards of the municipal corporation. For a change, there was no resistance from the locals and the RRTs even paid compensation on the spot.
The surveillance teams mounted awareness activities in all the 29 wards where 80,000 leaflets were distributed through newspapers and door-to-door campaign. Similarly, IEC campaign was augmented and over 18,700 households were covered. The BMC teams carried out sanitation in wards 9 and 26 where all the shops were found closed.
The Health Department created an isolation ward at Capital Hospital while at the camp sites, health check up is being done twice a day.
