PURI: Three policemen were injured in Khajuria village under Brahmagiri police limits on Tuesday.

SP Anup Sahoo said the three, including an ASI, had gone to the village to inquire about the ballot boxes that had gone missing from booths 7 and 8 in Dimirisena during the first phase poll on Saturday. During the investigation, police had a scuffle with the villagers who attacked them.

Villagers, on the other hand, had a different story to tell. They alleged that during the inquiry, the policemen misbehaved with a woman of the village which resulted in an argument. “Following this, while the villagers pelted stones at the cops, the latter resorted to lathi-charge injuring seven women,” an eyewitness claimed.
