NAYAGARH: He literally survived from the jaws of death. A youth of Nayagarh town was frighteningly close to being swallowed by a python but saved himself  bravely on Thursday.

Manas Naik (25), as part of his daily morning rituals, went to worship Goddess Bhairavi whose idol he had installed under a tree in a hillock near Balangibandh tank on the outskirts of the town. After bowing before the Goddess when he was about to get up, to his horror Naik found a huge python with mouth agape right above his head.

Without giving up, Naik gave the 10-foot reptile a fight and managed to push it away. Hearing his screams, people from a nearby slum rushed to the spot and killed the python.

Naik, was rushed to district headquarters hospital where doctors removed some splinters of the snake’s teeth from his scalp.
