DHENKANAL: A 42-year-old tusker died after it was hit by a train near Govindpur under Godabalua reserve forest, 10 km from the district headquarters town, in the wee hours of Sunday.

 The animal was found dead 300 metre from the railway tracks and the carcass seized for autopsy.

 Sadar forest ranger Ajay Sahoo said the tusker was hit by a train when it was crossing the railway tracks                       along with its herd early in the morning.

The herd was seen moving round the carcass by local villagers.

 Autopsy report revealed that the animal died of brain haemorrhage.

 DFO S K Dalai visited the spot along with other officials. He informed that after autopsy the tusks of the animal were removed. They were 64 cm in length and weighed 20 kg.

 Another tusker was found dead under similar circumstances at Tentuliapada village two months back.
