BALASORE: A 25-year-old woman of Rasalpur under Sadar police limits suffered serious burn injuries after some unidentified men threw acid on her face on Sunday evening.

  Police sources said the incident took place while she was returning home from the local market.

 With serious burns on the right side of her body, Namita Jee was rushed to the district headquarters hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack in a critical condition on Monday. She had sustained nearly 30 per cent burn injuries, doctors said.

 Around 10 pm when she was returning home, two persons came on a two-wheeler and hurl acid on her face. “Before I could react, they fled and I couldn’t recognise them as power supply snapped and it was dark,” she told mediapersons.

 Though the victim’s father Anadi Jee said he had lodged a written complaint with Jayadevkasaba police outpost, police said they were yet to receive any.

She was married in 2008 and staying away from her husband nearly a month after. Since then she was residing with her parents.  As the couple were staying separately but not legally separated, police are looking into the involvement of her husband in the attack.

MAN DIES IN MISHAP:  Sanjay Panda (27), who was accompanying the samiti member nominee of his panchayat died in an accident near Remuna Golai under Industrial Area police limits in Balasore district on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Panda of Kuligaon village.

 Police said the mishap occurred when the bike, which Panda was riding,  collided with a dumper head-on. He was declared brought dead by the doctors at a hospital. A case has been registered.
