SAMBALPUR: Two persons were lynched by the residents of Kudenisha hamlet in Balaranga village in Batemura gram panchayat under Dhama police limits in the district on Sunday evening.
The deceased have been identified as Arun Meher alias Nrupalal (25) of Babukhinda village under Thelkuli police limits and Abinash Kumar Dash (22), resident of VSS Colony, Burla. Sources said that the two were invited by one Toofan Pradhan of the hamlet on the occasion of ‘Puspuni’ festival on Saturday. On their way to the village, they picked a fight with one Dhira Naik of the village and his uncle over a trifle.
Incensed, the village youths chased them to the house of Toofan where both Meher and Dash attacked the youths with ‘bhujali’, injuring a few of them.
This aggravated the situation further with the village youths lynching them.
Police have detained eight villagers and further investigation is on.
Youth Nabbed
SONEPUR: The Sonepur Police have arrested a youth identified as Surendra Mallick (21) of village Bahira under Baunsini police limits in Boudh district on charges of abduction and rape of a minor on Monday.
He has been forwarded to the court which remanded him to judicial custody after rejecting his bail plea.
Reports said parents of the girl had lodged a missing report with the Sonepur Police on October 29. On a tip off that the youth along with the girl was awaiting for a bus at Block Chowk, police rushed to the spot and arrested the youth.
