RAYAGADA: Filing of nominations for 22 zilla parishad constituencies and 159 out of 171 gram panchayats in the district concluded on Thursday. There were no reports of any untoward incident.

With the Jhodia community locking up the panchayat offices, no nominations were filed for the 12 pachayats in Kashipur block. The community has been at loggerheads with the Government seeking   the Scheduled Tribe status.

The community members had submitted a petition to the district administration stating that it would not allow the nomination process. They even staged a demonstration at the Kashipur block office.

Collector Nitin Bhanudas Jawale confirmed that no nominations were received for the 12 panchayats. DRDA Project Director Premanidhi Seth was deputed to oversee the law and order situation.
