PADAMPUR (BARGARH): Padampur town downed shutters and observed complete bandh called by Citizens’ Committee on Monday demanding a Crime Branch probe into the suicide of Mamatanjali Sarangi, a science lecturer of Jayadev Institute of Science and Technology here.
Although the police have arrested Krushna Mohan Panda, a History lecturer of Anchal College in Padampur and the husband of the Principal of Jayadev Institute of Science and Technology under Section 306 of IPC for alleged abetment of suicide, it has failed to pacify the locals who are crying foul.
The bandh call evoked spontaneous response
as students of Anchal College and other educational
institutions boycotted classes and demanded suspension of Krushna Mohan
Panda.
The bandh also saw vehicles remaining off the road and commercial shops and establishments closed.
Reports said the teacher, a native of Hatpada in Titlagarh, was teaching Zoology in the college since the academic session 2008-09. She was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her hostel room. Although she was rushed to a hospital, the doctors declared her brought dead.
