JAJPUR: Police on Wednesday arrested a person and recovered from his possession 21 live crude bombs. The bombs were being procured, apparently, with a motive to use them in the panchayat elections. The arrested identified as Kalandi Parida of Kalamatia village under Bari police limits, was bringing the bombs to Sagadi village of Goleipur panchayat under Korei block.  He had procured the bombs from one Julia Malik of his village.  Parida was produced in court on Wednesday and later remanded in judicial custody.

On a tip off, the plainclothes police followed Parida and caught him near Sagadi village before he could deliver the explosives. Parida revealed during interrogation that he acted as a messenger and did not know about the supplier and receiver.

He  revealed that he was hired by Malik for ` 1,000 and was told to hand over the explosives to the receiver for ` 8,000, said Paresh Kumar Rout, the IIC of Panikoili police station. The bomb disposal squad has been called from State Police Headquarters to defuse them.
