Student Feared Drowned

ROURKELA: A student of the National Institute of Technology-Rourkela (NIT-R) is feared to have drowned in the Brahmani river near Birtola under Chandiposh police limits in Sundargarh district.

Reports said Kumar Gourav (22), a second year NIT-R student from Bihar, had gone to Birtola’s Bireswar temple for picnic along with friends. The mishap occurred while he was bathing in the river.

Bonai SDPO Amresh Panda said he was seen drowning at around 9 am and even after hours of search the body could not be retrieved. The search operation was suspended in the evening and would resume on Monday, he added.

Man Kills Wife

One Tara Ekka (48) was allegedly beaten to death on Saturday night by her husband, Budhua at the Aamtola slum of Sector-6 here. Reports said following a quarrel, the accused punched and kicked the woman to death.
