Man Gets 10-yr RI for Circulating Fake Notes

BALASORE: Additional District and Sessions Judge, Balasore, Jiban Ballav Dash on Friday sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for circulating counterfeit currency notes.

The court has also imposed a fine of ` 1 lakh on Hiralal Saha of Bihar and on default, he has to undergo one more month of RI.

He was tried under Section 489 (a) and (b). Saha was then working as an employee of the Chandipur-based defence establishment.

According to the prosecution, Saha had given a fake

` 1000 note against a purchase at a garment store

in Soro market of Balasore district on November 13, 2010.

The court pronounced the judgment after examining nine witnesses, relevant evidences and the currency note verification letter obtained from the Nashik currency division, which had certified the note to be forged.
