BHUBANESWAR: The Budget has fallen far short of expectations of the State Government even though enhanced funding for the Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) has been announced.

The increased allocation of Rs 12,040 cr under BRGF will boost development in backward and tribal districts of the State. Other benefits for Odisha include a provision of Rs 50 cr for Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) and Rs 200 cr for incentivising research with rewards in field of food security and agriculture, both for institutions and the research team responsible for scientific breakthroughs.

Reacting to the Budget proposals, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said it appears to be futile attempt of the UPA Government to moderate inflation and step up growth.
