ROURKELA: Rourkela Police on Monday claimed to have foiled a bank dacoity attempt with the arrest of two criminals with a country-made revolver and a live bullet.

On a tip off, a Plant Site police team and a special squad raided the backyard of the main branch of SBI at Bisra Square. They managed to nab two criminals while three others fled.

Rourkela SP Himanshu Lal said the two admitted to have plotted a robbery in the bank.

They have been identified as A Balakrishna alias Bapi (22) and P Iswar alias Pulli (25), both hailing from Kodala area in Ganjam district. They were habitual criminals.

The seizures included a country-made loaded revolver, ` 9,150, a numberless motorcycle and 221 gem stones and instruments to break open two-wheeler dickeys.

Investigation revealed that they were involved in a series of theft and shop burglary cases in which cash and ornaments, worth over ` 5 lakh, were looted.
