JHARSUGUDA: Palpable tension gripped Ib Pit at Lajkura Coal Mines of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) under Brajrajnagar police limits in the district, after a mob assaulted two persons and opened two rounds of blank fire.
Reports said the injured duo were attacked by a mob led by one Amit Dhal over illegal coal trading while they were sitting at an eatery near Ib Pit. They were hit on the head with beer bottles resulting in profuse bleeding. Dhal then fired twice in air to terrorise the locals.
The injured duo, Asis Deo (22) and Manish Kumar Yadav (24), were rushed to Mandalia Central Hospital of MCL and later shifted to VSS Medical at Burla after their condition deteriorated.
The police have reportedly arrested Dhal.
