UU students with criminal antecedents to face action

The post-graduate students of Utkal University (UU) with criminal cases against them will face action after the inquiry by the Standing Committee on Discipline is completed.

The committee was set up by the varsity officials to check the increasing number of violent clashes taking place on the campus in the recent past. The varsity students have been embroiled in a series of attacks by outsiders and have been repeatedly demanding action against the culprits. Another clash occurred between the students and outsiders on the UU campus on Monday night after the outsiders were prevented from trying to enter the campus.

The committee has asked the police officials to inform the UU authorities of any criminal record against any of the present students of the university. “Action will be taken against the students who are found to have any criminal action against them. With the semester examinations approaching, we do not want any more unrest on the campus,” said PG Council Chairman PK Mishra.

The varsity students had also stormed the DCP office on Tuesday morning, demanding action against the culprits of the Monday night clash. But Saheed Nagar police claimed that it was not a gherao.
