Big idea takes small form

He owns a stationery shop but his love for electronic goods saw him make the smallest table fan. Suraj Kumar Meher (36), a resident of Dhanupali in the town, has found an entry into the Limca Book of Records for the innovation. His name will find place in the 2013 edition of the book.

The miniature table fan is 2 cm in height, 1.4 cm in width and weighs just 2.8 gm. It runs on battery and has a 4-mm diameter micro motor.

Terming his achievement as a dream come true, Suraj said he now aims for a place in the Guinness World Records.

It took him 13 days to make the smallest fan operational. After picking pieces of aluminium, iron, brass, steel and tin, he assembled the required spares and on February 16 his wonder fan was ready for trial run.

Later he applied for an entry into the Limca Books of Records and in July they acknowledged that it was indeed the smallest fan ever made.

A commerce graduate, Suraj has a flair for  electronic gadgets.

Expressing happiness over his selection, his wife, Nirupama Meher, said he is always busy trying something new. And her contentions are true as a clap and not the remote activates the television in his house.
