Two persons were electrocuted and over 15 persons, including three children, injured after coming in contact with an 11- KV live wire during immersion of Khukurkuni idol on Tuesday at Adheimania hamlet under Gopinathpur gram panchayat.
The deceased have been identified as Rabindra Biswal (45) and Narendra Mohanty (24) of Malihata. They succumbed on their way to a local hospital.
Eight of the 15 injured persons were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, after their condition deteriorated.
According to reports, locals of Adheimania were carrying the Bhalukuni ‘Medha’ in a four-wheeler for immersion when the ‘Medha’ which was prepared with iron rods came in contact with a sagging 11-kv wire. The iron rods and chassis of the vehicle got charged leading to the mishap.
Jagatpur police station IIC Rajendra Kumar Senapati said they were not informed about the procession.
