Woman on shopping spree after selling baby

Rakhi Patra (20) of Mundamal village, who had sold her baby in a desperate bid to arrange money to get her husband released from jail, apparently bought a pair of jeans, T-shirts, a mobile phone with the money. This was revealed by police on Wednesday.

The 17-month-old baby boy, who was sold off by Rakhi for Rs 5,000 two weeks back, was rescued by Jajpur Police on Tuesday following a High Court directive.

“During interrogation, she confessed to have purchased these items with the money,” said Jajpur Road police station IIC Aswini Sahu. Rakhi sold the child with the help of Dharani Malik, a rickshaw-puller, he added.
