Their wait stretched long only to be told later that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had cancelled his visit to the district.

Thousands of people, officials and BJD workers had gathered at the DNK ground here since Thursday morning. The Chief Minister was scheduled to land at the AET helipad near the SP office from Visakhapatnam at 10.50 am and address a public meeting. His itinerary included distribution of land pattas to beneficiaries, bicycles to the SC/ST girl students and foundation lying ceremony for a model police station. Naveen went straight to Koraput from Visakhapatnam but reportedly had to leave for Bhubaneswar due to inclement weather.

With Naveen not making to the programme, Collector M Muthu Kumar, Malkangiri MLA Mukund Sodi and ZP president Padmini Muduli distributed bicycles among the SC and ST girl students and other assistance to the beneficiaries under different government schemes.
