All revamped roads lead to potholes

The rains have created craters on roads here that were repaired a few months back by both the municipality and the local defence unit. The condition of major thoroughfares of the coastal town is no better. The 5-km stretch between ITI square and Patrapada, which was supposed to be repaired by the defence unit, is in a horrible state.

Locals led by Balasore Advance Parents Association recently staged a blockade at Bankakhajira Square demanding immediate repair of the road. The association blamed the defence authorities for their indifferent attitude towards peripheral development.

The coastal town has about 487-km stretch of road that falls under Balasore Municipality. While the OT Road is repaired by the PWD, the roads connecting ITI Chhack to Chandipur, Police line square to Hemkapada and Station Chhack to Padhuanpada are maintained by the local defence estate management unit.

The Municipality and the defence unit throw mud at  each other when it comes to road repair. While the defence authorities argued that stagnant water damaged the roads, the Municipality blamed it on the poor repairing work.
