Former MLA Manas Ranjan Mallik passed away here on Tuesday due to renal failure at a private hospital.

Son of late Hrudananda Mallik, Mallik was elected to the Assembly twice from Dhamnagar seat in 1990 and 2000, a constituency represented by his father four times.

Mallik was first elected in a byelection on a Janata Dal ticket, in 1990 and again as an Independent in 2000.

Describing Mallik as a good organiser, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik mourned his death.
