Jeypore seed growers seek review of registration

Over 100 seed growers of Jeypore have appealed to the Agriculture Minister to review the seeds registration process again to facilitate the farming community to send their seeds to the State Seeds Corporation.

 Seed growers of Jeypore, Kotpad, Borrigumma, Kundra and Boipariguda areas said that they had taken foundation paddy seeds from the State Seeds Production office at Jeypore two months back under kharif 2012 schedule and accordingly Puja, Lalata, 1001, Mtu 7029 varieties of seeds were transplanted in their fields.

 As per the norms, the seed varieties should be registered in the local seeds production office for procurement purpose by government agencies but due to shortage of time given for seeds registration by the authority and late arrival of monsoon, the farmers could not register.

They have been denied the facility to give seeds for the corporation, farmers said adding it would affect their income.
