2 held for assaulting headmistress

Two women members of a self help group (SHG) were arrested on Friday for allegedly assaulting the headmistress of Indira Gandhi Memorial School here.

Sources said Sub Collector Pradip Barik, Sambalpur-based CI of Schools Sangram Sahu and SDPO Phagua Singh on Friday noon reached the school where they faced protest from some SHG members and the school’s management committee. However, the school was finally opened even as six of the remaining 24 students obtained transfer certificate.  The CI said he would recommend the closure of block-grant  school as it was not fulfilling the laid down guidelines.

Jharsuguda SP KS Kawar informed that SHG members Sarojini Patel and Sanjukta Bhiasa were arrested and sent to jail for assaulting the school’s headmistress Sushma Nayak on Wednesday while she was taking class.

School’s management committee convenor Tapaswilal Tiwari demanded removal of the headmistress.
