Students file nominations

The filing of nomination papers for the students’ union elections in colleges across the City went on smoothly on Friday.

No untoward incident was reported except for a stray one at Maharshi College of Natural Law College where two candidates have filed nominations for the president’s post.  Police were deployed at the college during the nomination filing process.

Similarly, two candidates are in the fray for the president’s post at both BJB Autonomous College and Capital Law College. The BJB college officials have asked the students to refrain from any kind of violence during the election.

Meanwhile, the students of Utkal University are apprehensive despite a declaration by the authorities to hold elections this year.

Former student union president of the University Law College Akash said every year the State Government notifies election. However, this year, they are yet to receive any notification for the polls. “They may hold elections at a later stage,” added Akash.

The final list will be declared on Saturday after which candidates can withdraw their nominations.
