Annual cultural festival, Mondei from November 6

Preparations are afoot for the district-level mega annual cultural festival of Nabarangpur district - Mondei-2012, that showcases the district’s rich cultural heritage.

This time, over 30 cultural troupes will be participating in the three-day festival that is scheduled to begin from November 6.

The District Collector and chairperson of District Council of Culture, Yamini Sarangi, said a budget of Rs 23 lakh had been earmarked for the festival. “Eastern Zonal Cultural Council and Indian Council of Cultural Relations besides Culture Department have extended their support to the festival,” she said. This year will mark a decade of the Mondei  which was started in 2002 by the then collector Aravind Padhee. He has been requested by the local administration to grace the festival as a special guest this year.

A district-level ‘Manch Natak Mahotsav’, Kavi Samelan, sports activities, quiz and dance competitions have been lined up for the event. A five-day industrial exhibition, Pallishree Mela, will be organised. The block-level celebration will be kicked off from Podagada  on October 31.
