Two rape bids: One arrested

There were two rape attempts on students in the town. In the first incident, a miscreant tried to rape an 11-year girl student in Jadumanipatna in Rairakhol town under Rairakhol police limits on Saturday evening. In the second  case, the October 10 incident came to light on Saturday morning when the victim, a five-year-old girl child, a student of Class I in Turipada in Bhatra of Sambalpur town, told her mother about it.

Parents of the 11-year old victim lodged a complaint with the Rairakhol Police on Sunday and cops have launched a manhunt to nab the accused Chandrahasya Pradhan.

On the other hand, locals of Turipada handed over the accused Basanta Bag to the Dhanupali Police after the plight of five-year-old girl became public.

Reports said the 11-year-old victim was watching TV with her brother on Saturday when their neighbour Chandrahasya Pradhan sent out her brother on some errand and tried to rape the girl. However, the girl raised an alarm forcing Pradhan to leave the place.

The five-year-old girl child had gone to get eatables from a betel shop near her house when the shopkeeper Basanta Bag took the girl and sexually assaulted her. He also threatened her of dire consequences if she informed anyone.  On Saturday, when Bag asked her to come to the shop again, she narrated the ordeal to her mother who informed the police.
