Man gets life for wife’s murder

Nrusingha Charan Sahu (31) of Bhima-tikiri village under Binka police limits of Sonepur district was sentenced to life imprisonment for burning his wife to death in a lodge here. District and Sessions Judge of Phulbani Sarat Chandra Mohapatra pronounced the sentence on Friday.

According to the prosecution, Nrusingha poured kerosene on his wife Suka Sahu (25) while they were staying in a lodge in 2011.

The lodge owner noticed smoke and rushed to the room to see the woman in fire with hands and legs tied. She was rushed to the district headquarter hospital with 95 per cent burn injuries.

After recording her dying declaration before police accusing her husband of the murder bid, she was then shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur but succumbed on the way.

The police had registered a murder case and submitted chargesheet.

After perusing the evidences of 17 witnesses and the dying declaration, the court sentenced Nrusingha to life imprisonment and a fine of ` 10,000. On default, he would have to undergo one more year of imprisonment.
