Even as Commissionerate Police go after anti-social elements on the run-up to the Dussehra, late night shooting in a dhaba near Patrapada on Saturday shocked the area. An unidentified miscreant shot at a staffer of the eatery and vanished  leaving the cops groping in dark.

The dhaba worker, Mithun Pradhan, received a bullet shot on his right leg. He has been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.

Mithun told Khandagiri Police that he heard someone knocking at the dhaba door at around 1 am. When he responded, a person asked for food. It was already late and Mithun said the dhaba had been closed. He then heard a loud noise and something hit his right thigh.

Police said, Mithun could not see the miscreant who fired on him since it was dark. The anti-social had just got down from an auto and there were two or three more persons with him in the vehicle. After the firing, they fled the place.

The incident has left the police in a spot over the motive behind the shooting. The dhaba owner too was not present when the incident occurred.

Mithun was initially admitted to a private hospital before being shifted to Cuttack.
