1550 hemp plants destroyed

In a joint raid conducted by the Phringia police and District Excise authorities, hemp plants worth Rs 1.30 crore were uprooted and destroyed in Burgibali and Sasipadar villages under Phringia police limits on Monday morning.

Nearly 1,550 hemp plants were uprooted by the police and Excise personnel, said the SDPO Gobind Sethi, who led the operation. As the cultivation was over government lands, no body was arrested. A case under NDPS Act has been registered.

The Tehasildar of Phulbani Priya Ranjan Prusty was deployed as executive magistrate. One platoon force of Indian Reserve Battalion, local police, Excise Inspector Ganeswar Majhi and his staff took part in the operation.
