The closed Gandhamardan iron ore mine of Odisha Mining Corporation was reopened on Monday morning following the intervention of district administration.
In September 2011, Forest and Environment Department issued a showcause to Odisha Mining Corporation over violation of forest laws. The mine was closed since then. “In compliance with the forest department’s notice we are allowing transportation of minerals from this mine and district administration formed a steering committee consisting of six members from Keonjhar District Truck Owners’ Association and Regional Truck Owners’ Association of Suakati,” said BK Behera, Regional Manager of Gandhamardan iron ore mines, here.
There was a conflict few days back between these two associations regarding the ratio of loading. On October 19 a meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Sub-Collector Pratap Chandra Hota for smooth transportation of iron ore from this mine.
