Four miscreants opened fire on a businessman at Bilahat under Mahal police outpost limits and looted Rs 2.85 lakh from his possession on Thursday.

Sources said the motorcycle-borne miscreants were trailing Jatindra Routray, a cattle trader of Biribati village, when he was returning home on his two-wheeler along with the cash.

At an isolated place near Bilahat area, the miscreants intercepted and opened fire at him.

When Routray collapsed with bullet injuries in his leg, they snatched the bag which contained the cash and fled. Hearing his screams, locals rushed to the spot and shifted him to the district headquarters hospital.

He was later shifted to SCB Medical at Cuttack. Both Kishorenagar and Raghunathpur Police have been pressed to trace out the miscreants.ENS
